Anti-Bullying
Anti-bullying is an issue that concerns all Parents/Carers and at Chesterfield we take it seriously.
Our school is a member of the National Children’s Bureau, Anti Bullying Alliance. We work closely with this organisation to ensure that we have the most up to date information and advice in the quest to stamp out bullying.
Our anti-bullying work continues throughout the school year in PHSE lessons and form time. However, a major focus is placed on the issue during Anti-Bullying Week, which is recognised annually in school.
“This year, more than ever, we’ve witnessed the positive power that society can have when we come together to tackle a common challenge.
Anti-Bullying Week is no different. Bullying has a long lasting effect on those who experience and witness it. But by channelling our collective power, through shared efforts and shared ambitions, we can reduce bullying together. From parents and carers, to teachers and politicians, to children and young people, we all have a part to play in coming together to make a difference.
We’re all a piece in the puzzle, and together, we’re united against bullying.”
Whether it is verbal, physical, online or in-person, bullying has a significant impact on a child’s life. Bullying in childhood can have a long lasting impact. The Anti-Bullying Alliance is urging action for this year’s Anti-Bullying Week and saying that by making small simple changes, we can break this cycle and create a safe environment for everyone.
For our school community, we are going to focus on helping our students to reflect on their social media usage. We are going to ask students to think about the impact of our words or stopping before hitting ‘like’ on a hurtful social media post. Every Word Counts.
To support our work to challenge prejudice and bullying, Chesterfield is also a
member of Stonewall and we are proud to hold the title of a Stonewall Champion School. Stonewall is an organisation that works to ensure the inclusivity of the LGBTQIA Community within schools. This highlights the commitment that we have undertaken in school to ensure that students understand what homophobic bullying is and that it will not be tolerated within our school or local community. In addition to our Stonewall Champion status, we have recently been approved for the Navajo Chartermark Award which demonstrates our commitment to wards education of and support for Young Trans people in school.
Chesterfield is proud to been named a Holocaust Education Beacon School through the Centre for Holocaust Education. This is the only institution in the world which uses research to enable teachers to address the issues and challenges related to Holocaust Education. The Centre works in partnership with Pears Foundation and is also funded by the Department for Education (DfE).
Chesterfield is one of 17 Beacon schools in England who are committed to enhancing the teaching and learning about the Holocaust. We will become a dynamic hub serving a network of local schools and will partner with the Centre to improve standards, raise pupil achievement and strengthen SMSC provision. We are committed to the view that the Holocaust is a critically important part of young people’s education while appreciating the complex challenges that this raises as a school subject.
