More Able and Talented
Most Able Pupils
At Chesterfield, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils are challenged, inspired, and supported to achieve their full potential. Our provision for the most able pupils is designed to stretch and extend learning, nurture curiosity, and develop independence, creativity and leadership.
Our Approach
We:
- Identify the most able pupils through a range of evidence, including Key Stage 2 data, teacher assessment, and ongoing performance.
- Provide stretch and challenge within lessons through a range of activities, higher-order questioning, and opportunities for independent research.
- Offer enrichment activities such as clubs, competitions, masterclasses, and visits to universities.
- Encourage participation in leadership roles and mentoring opportunities within the school community.
- Work closely with parents and carers to support and celebrate all pupils’ progress.
Opportunities and Enrichment
Our most able pupils have access to:
- Subject-specific challenges such as the UKMT Maths Challenge, STEM activities, and Creative Writing Competitions.
- Partnerships with local universities and external organisations to explore higher-level study and career pathways.
- Extension reading lists, workshops, and online learning platforms to deepen understanding beyond the classroom.
