This week we are celebrating LGBT+ History week in school. Mr Sexton is presenting assemblies to students recognising members of the LGBT+ community who have shaped history for us all in the UK. He discussed Alan Turing who is often called the father of modern computing, a brilliant mathematician and logician whose genius led to techniques which cracked the Germans Enigma Code after which Winston Churchill said “he shortened the war by two years.”
However, Turing was prosecuted in 1952 for homosexual acts after which he accepted chemical castration treatment as an alternative to prison.
The story of Alan Turing and other significant individuals who have shaped our history such as William Shakespeare, Florence Nightingale and Isaac Newton will be further investigated during form times this week.
