Tuesday 19th and Thursday 21st March saw the end of the netball season with the annual Sefton schools netball tournament at Maricourt high school. After a very successful season in the league, it is a great opportunity to end on a high.
Tuesday 19th was the under u14s and u15s. The year 10 girls suffered a few injuries just before the tournament so they played with a few year 9s playing up a year group and they were fantastic. They didn’t qualify from their group as they finished 3rd but gave a really good account of themselves, playing some lovely netball.
Year 9s had only lost 1 game all season to Sacred Heart and were really determined to do well. They sailed through their group matches, beating Maricoirt and Merchant Taylor’s and faced Sacred Heart in the semi-final. It was a tough game but they held their nerve and beat them 4-3 to face St. Mary’s in the final. The match was neck and neck and could have gone either way, but, unfortunately, with a couple more unforced errors than St. Mary’s, they lost 9-5.
The year 8s again have had a great season but faced some injuries. They did, however, still qualify for them semis where they faced Merchants. It was a tough game with some great play but they unfortunately lost the match not getting through to the final.
The year 7s were similar to the year 9s as they had only lost 1 match all season to Sacred Heart. They, too, sailed through, winning their group beating Litherland, Hillside, Maricourt and St. Mary’s, playing great netball. They faced Deyes in the semi-final which they won also and went on to the final to play Sacred Heart. The match was goal for goal until the end and unfortunately they lost 4-2.
All the teams were an absolute credit to the school and they have been a joy to have at practices and matches all year. Let’s hope we get some silver wear in the 2019-2020 season.
