Sixth Form News – 1/2/19

YEAR 13 PARENTS’ EVENING

Thursday 7th February is the Year 13 Parents’ Evening. This is an important and crucial opportunity to discuss progress as the formal examination period approaches. Information on University Finance and Apprenticeships will also be provided. All parents are encouraged to attend to support their son or daughter’s through this a potentially very pressurized few months. Anyone who is unable to attend is requested to inform Mrs Hughes, the Year 13 Student Support Manager.

HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY

The this week assembly was led by Mr Sexton who delivered a very moving and reflective presentation. Students were reminded of the terrible atrocities that occurred during the WW2 and those that have since followed. Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place on 27 January each year and is a time to remember the millions of people murdered during the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution and in the genocides which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

UCAS

Most students have now receive their various offers and must ensure they meet the deadline of confirming their choices. Furthermore any student who has changed their mind about their course selection must see Ms Bowers in order to address. Finally we urged students who have not paid the UCAS administration fee of £24 to the school to do so as a matter of priority.. Details of this have been sent home; a copy of the letter is available here: UCAS Application Fee.

CHARITY FUND RAISING

I am delighted to report that an impressive £356 was raised in red ribbon sales in acknowledgement of World Aids Day on 1st December and at the start of November a further £399 was collected in poppy sales for Remembrance Week. Both amounts are up on the money collected last academic year.

C3 – DETENTIONS

Students who are recorded as being behind with their work are expected to complete an additional hour at the end of their school day. The same applies to those who are persistently late or who receive a consequence in lessons. It is intended that this will support students in making better decisions and ultimately allow them to secure excellent grades alongside a desirable reference.
