The highly anticipated Christmas Celebration was held at St. Luke’s Church, Crosby, on 13 December 2018. Our celebration of all things Christmassy involved pupils of all year groups from Dance and Music. The evening was hosted by our fabulous 6th from students, Dan Owen and Will Robson.
The Musical Theatre Club performed ‘A Million Dreams’ from the hit musical The Greatest Showman followed by Christmas classic ‘The Snowman’, featuring Layla Campbell and Shaughn Rice. Dillon Cronin performed ‘White Christmas’, accompanied by the choir.
The Wind Band performed the piece ‘12 Songs of Christmas’ arranged by our woodwind teacher, Mr Harrison. The final piece was ‘Stop the Cavalry’ which featured the famous trumpet fanfare start.
The audience couldn’t attend a Christmas Celebration without singing carols. The three communal carols sung were ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’, ‘Hark The Herald’ and ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’. All communal carols were accompanied by instrumentalists Daisy Fern (Euphonium) and Chelsea Dew (clarinet).
All of our dance groups performed exceptionally well. Each group choreographed their own routine to different Christmas pop songs, including ‘Jingle Bell Rock’, ‘Last Christmas’, ‘All I Want for Christmas’, ‘Rocking Around the Christmas Tree’ and ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’, each with different twists and turns to keep the audience memorised and entertained. The groups came from years 7, 8 and 9 and the level of discipline, accuracy and maturity was a joy to watch.
Chelsea Dew on clarinet played the peaceful and delicate ‘Walking in the Air’ with piano accompaniment. On Euphonium, Daisy Fern played ‘Sleigh Ride’ with exceptional skill. Lucy Taylor performed a peaceful duet of ‘Silent Night’ with P McElroy on violin.
The Weatles, fresh from the debut concert at The Cavern, Liverpool, performed ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’ by Slade. The band includes Reese O’Neill, Lucy Curran, Daisy Cox, Sophie Li and Francesco Natoli.
Vocal solos came from Ella Jules performing ‘Somewhere Only We Know’, made famous by vocalist Lilly Allen for the John Lewis advert and Reese O’Neill performing ‘Last Christmas’.
During the Celebration, three members of staff read thoughtful and poignant stories to help set the atmosphere for the evening and thanks must go to Mr K Sexton, Mrs P Allen and Mrs V Mills for their contribution.
The Celebration finished with the Musical Theatre Club, featuring Daniel Graham, singing ‘Silent Night’ with choir accompaniment and ‘O Holy Night’, featuring Ella-Jade Birtchnell-Wolley.
Thank you to all the pupils, staff, governors and parents for supporting our Christmas Celebration 2018.
