SIXTH FORM NEWS – 30/11/18

UCAS

The school deadline for sending UCAS applications through for approval has now passed. Students will now receive an appointment time to check grades and references before their application form is submitted. The UCAS administration fee of £24 should also have been paid to the school in order for their application to be sent. Details of this have been sent home; a copy of the letter is available here: UCAS Application Fee.

PARENTS’ EVENING

Many thanks to everyone who came along to the Year 12 Parents’ Evening. The step-up from GCSEs to A-Level and Level 3 courses is a challenge and there were many constructive conversations between parents, students and staff in respect to offering support. If you have any further enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact the school on 0151 9246454.

LEAP

On 19th November, Year 12 Students attended the LEAP workshop at the Student Unite building in Liverpool. Students were able to see examples of the typical University accommodation including the high-tech cooking and washing facilities. The workshop also engaged students into considering the issues surrounding moving away from home and the factors to be considered when deciding where to live. The welfare support offered by Student Unite and the Universities themselves was also explained.

Charity Fund Raising

Saturday 1st December is World Aids Awareness Day and in recognition of this, Mr Sexton and 12A have been selling the ribbons for charity. The assemblies have also provided the opportunity to educate students about the facts on HIV and AIDs and to dispel some of the myths that still exist.

C3 – DETENTIONS

Students who are recorded as being behind with their work are expected to complete an additional hour at the end of their school day. The same applies to those who are persistently late or who receive a consequence in lessons. It is intended that this will support students in making better decisions and ultimately allow them to secure excellent grades alongside a desirable reference.
