Year 7 Examinations

Year 7 examinations took place this week. I would like to congratulate all students on their exemplary behaviour throughout the week and when sitting examinations , particularly in such hot weather conditions. Invigilators commented on how superb the pupils had been. Well done to all!

This week we are excited to have embarked upon our third annual Readathon, the national sponsored reading event for schools.

Readathon encourages children to read for pleasure – an activity proven to increase children’s chances of success and personal happiness for the rest of their lives. Readathon motivates reluctant readers to give reading a go, and keen readers to read more widely. It works because children choose what they want to read – they are not being assessed, it’s all about reading for fun. Parents/carers have been asked to support them, in particular by sponsoring them and so far there is a great buzz around school in Year 7 and 8 about this. The money raised helps the charity Read for Good to regularly give brand new books and storyteller visits to children’s hospitals across the UK. For more information, check out your child’s sponsorship card and visit

Sponsors can pay by cash (at the office), through School Gateway, or pay directly online by and entering the school’s postcode: L23 9YB. Please do support your child’s reading efforts. Research tells us again and again that children who read for pleasure are more likely to have successful outcomes. Above all, we hope they have fun!

As well as encouraging pupils to read for fun, our school will get free books worth 20% of our sponsorship total as a reward for taking part– so there really is something in it for everyone.

Readathon will run until Friday 13th July and we are asking for monies to be paid by Monday 16th July.  We will update you with our total amount raised as soon as possible… we are hoping to beat last year’s immense total of £800… fingers crossed!

Year 7 Trip to Sandcastle, Blackpool

The end of year reward trip for Year 7 took place yesterday at the Sandcastle Waterpark in Blackpool. Staff said that the students were superb and appeared to have great fun. A well deserved day out for such an excellent Year 7 group.
