Netball tournament success

Year 10 Netballers, Sefton Champions

On Tuesday 20th and Thursday 22nd March the annual South Sefton Netball tournament for Years 7-10 took place at Maricourt High School. After a fantastic season it is always an occasion the girls really look forward too.  Both the Year 7 and 8 teams have shown amazing hard work and determination all season in the league. We are still awaiting the final positions in the league but the Year 7 team only lost one match all season and Year 8 two; so they should definitely be in the top 3 out of the 12 schools entered in the league. In the tournament the girls excelled in their group stages; Year 7 came 2nd and Year 8 came 1st, meaning both qualified for the semi-finals, both against Sacred Heart.  Both semi-final matches were tough and close,. Year 7 unfortunately  lost 6-4 and Year 8, who faced several injuries and had to make changes for the semi –final, also lost in the last seconds of the match by one goal. Therefore both teams just missed out on the final. The Year 9 team played some lovely netball but unfortunately did not qualify into the semi-finals; they finished 4th in their group. The Year 10 team however, with a new team this year, played some fantastic netball all afternoon.  They were 2nd in their group so faced the winners in the other group, which again was Sacred Heart in the semi-final. They won this after a tense match after extra time and then faced St. Marys in the final which they won 5-3 to be crowned South Sefton Champions!
